When a person is suffering from blocked tear duct, the eyes become watery or tears run down from eyes. When a person is suffering from sinus infection or cold, the symptoms may get worsened. The symptoms become noticeable when exposed to wind, cold or sunlight. The bacteria which are trapped in the nasolacrimal sac because of a blockage in the tear duct, can lead to infection.

Some of the infections are: recurrent eye infection, blurred vision, crusty eyelashes, fever, mucus discharge from eyes and inflammation in the corner of eye or around the nose and eyes.

Blocked Tear Duct Diagnosis 

The block the tear duct is easily diagnosed by an ophthalmologist. A complete eye examination associated with number of tests is done. The medical history is also checked. Blockage in tear drainage system is examined. The blocked tear duct is diagnosed and a special fluid is injected on the tear duct and if the taste is not felt in throat, then there is a blocked tear duct. A CT scan or x-ray is also taken to examine the tear duct area. This process is called as dacryocystogram.
