Can Photochromic Lenses Replace Sunglasses
Photochromic lenses are around for more than a decade. They are very popular with people who wear eyeglasses full time. When the ultra violet light increases, they become dark and provide comfort to our eyes. UV light is present everywhere in the world. They cause damage to our eyes as well as the skin. However it is true that we receive nearly 45 percent of UV rays when we are indoors and also on a cloudy day.
Photochromic lenses are really a boon for busy people who used to roam more in the sunlight. Instead of switching to prescription sunglasses during the day time while you are under the sun and shifting back to normal glasses when you are indoors, it is better to use photochromic glasses instead. They are cheaper compared to costly prescription sunglasses and there is no need to change it again and again.
However it is advised not to use photochromic lenses during very bright conditions. They do not get dark like sunglasses when you are exposed to extreme glare. During these times, it is always advised to use a good pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses have undergone a major change and there are varieties of options to choose from. Wrap-around sunglasses are also available nowadays for sports activities.
They are also not suitable for plane polarized light conditions such as a snowfield or lake. The light waves coming from the surface of these places cause extreme glare. Fisherman and skier know about this glare very well and so it is advised to wear polarized sunglasses. They are known for eliminating glare as well as filter uv rays.
It is also not advisable to use it when you are driving a car, as sometimes photochromic lenses go dark in cool conditions.
