The surgeon will look for a person’s medical history, whether he had any dental surgery or implant or any other surgery. He will also check whether there is any recent skin wound, wound in chest or sinus and lung infection. A series of tests are done to diagnose the infection. If they suspect that there is preseptal cellulitis, tissues from eyes to nose are tested. If it is not diagnosed, a blood test is done to check whether there is orbital cellulitis.

A scan in the affected area is also done in some cases to diagnose the condition. The scan results are examined to determine whether the infection is in the orbit.

Cellulitis Treatment:

Antibiotic medicine is given by doctors in most cases to treat cellulitis. When a person is suffering from preseptal cellulitis, the infection gets better in a couple of days after taking antibiotics. The treatment procedure is different in orbital cellulitis. Antibiotics cannot treat cellulitis completely and so special antibiotics are injected through the patient’s vein continuously. During this procedure, the patient has to stay in hospital for a long time when compared to the first condition.

Sometimes fluid is extracted from the infected area. It is done in the doctor’s office itself otherwise it is done as a surgical procedure in a hospital or clinic. The doctor explains the complete treatment procedure and if you have any further questions regarding the procedure make sure that you ask him.
