Causes of Charles Bonnet Syndrome:
The retina present in our eyes is a light sensitive tissue which is responsible for a healthy vision. Retina converts the light rays entering into our eyes into visual signals and these signals are then sent to the brain. Diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age related macular degeneration are some of the disease which affects the eye. Because of these diseases visual processing does not work properly and the brain is not able to process the signals. As a result the brain recalls stored images. This is why people have visual hallucination because of Charles bonnet syndrome.
