It is found out that alopecia and thyroid disorder are some of the most common cause of eyelash loss and other hair loss. Alopecia is an auto immune disease which causes our body to attack hair follicles. As a result there is partial or complete hair loss in face, head and body. When this condition affects in the long term, it is hereditary. When there is sudden and temporary hair loss, the condition is known as acute alopecia. This condition is caused by factors such as fever, flu, illness, anemia, aging and surgery.

Thyroid is a gland which is present in the neck of our body. It is responsible for controlling body’s hormones. When the hormones are overloaded, the condition is known as hyperthyroidism and when there are few hormones, the condition is known as hypothyroidism. Both these conditions can cause hair loss. Some of the symptoms of thyroid disorder are blood pressure change, change in heart rate and change in weight.

Some of the less common causes for hair loss are chronic inflammatory disease like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis etc. Nutritional deficiency, chronic stress, hormone change caused by menopause and chemotherapy are also some other causes.

Consult a doctor if you have eyelash loss on both the eyes and also on the eyebrows, itching and scaling, when you feel pressure around the eyes and when there is vision loss.

Wash your lashes daily with gentle soap and with warm water. A healthy diet is also necessary like proteins, vegetables, fruits along with enough iron for maintaining healthy eyelashes.
