‘Herman Snellen’ – Be Honored
The Snellen chart is the most familiar part in the optometry and ophthalmology field. It will be apt to consider Herman Snellen, who is the founder to remember on the day of his death anniversary. The Dutch ophthalmologist Herman Snellen had designed the chart in 1862 which became of great use in the field of measuring the visual acuity. He is the one who designed the vision rating as having a ratio of 20/20. He had made the people of the world to turn across with interesting and influencing part of the field like studies astigmatismus, glaucoma, inflammation, diseases that is related to retina and also with the connective tissue. Herman Snellen also helped in the improvement of the ophthalmological field. He is also remembered for the numerous surgical procedures invented by him. These also include equipments related to entropion, ectropion, and trichiasis.
Apart from all these contributions, he is more familiar for his popular visual acuity chart which reminds of him as it bears his name. The Seattle Times, one of the popular newspapers, has sold en number of copies of the Snellen chart across the United States than the selling of any other posters.
Dr. Snellen has to be honored and remembered for his high contributions, especially the chart.
