Low Vision - Causes, symptoms And Treatment
The term low vision is used for patients who have visual acuity from 20/70 or lower than that. It cannot be corrected completely with surgery, glasses or contacts. They are different from blind people as they have some use of their sight. However they cannot perform some regular daily task such as reading, seeing from a distance and driving.
They are caused by many things. Some of them are diabetes, cataract, aging, inherited diseases, glaucoma, birth defect and macular degeneration.
Vision loss is very painful especially when you come to know that it cannot be restored. If you experience any symptoms, consult a doctor immediately. Some of the symptoms are having hard time watching television, unable to write, unable to drive, unable to recognise faces and unable to read things.
There are support groups and resources available for patients who have low vision. Consult your doctor to get the best treatment.
