Ocular Rosacea And Its Effect On Eyes

Rosacea is actually a skin condition. If a person is suffering from facial rosacea, blood vessels present on the skin gets enlarged and resemble like a spider. It also causes permanent flush on the side of nose and cheeks. The skin also feels hot and pimples also occur on chin, cheeks and forehead. Sometimes cheeks and nose also gets swollen up.

It also affects the eyelid skin by enlarging the capillaries. Because of this condition, meibomian glands get chocked up and there is little production of oily tears. It affects a single eye and sometimes both the eyes. One of the sad news is that, it is misdiagnosed most of the times. At first, doctors think it is meibomian gland dysfunction or blepharitis but after accurate diagnosis, they come to know about this condition.

It can be kept under control with accurate diagnosis and therapy. A change in diet and lid hygiene can do the simple job. To manage this condition, one can avoid alcohol, hot beverages and sunburn. Chocolates and spicy foods can also aggravate this condition. Anxiety and stress also has to be controlled.

People suffering from rosacea also have gut issues. To overcome this, one may have good quality probiotic supplements to ease gut issues. Oral supplements help the oil glands to secrete oil and improve its function. However it is to be noted that it is not suitable for pregnant women.
