Ortho-k Lense: Types & Care
Some people experience vision improvement in some days after ortho-k and for others it can take two weeks or more than that. Studies reveal that FDA approved ortho k lenses has provided 20/40 vision or better. Usually three pairs of ortho-k lenses are used to obtain best results. Once a person achieves the desired prescription, he doesn’t have to change the lenses and can use the same lens regularly for maintaining vision. Use it every night while sleeping.
At first they won’t be comfortable with to sleep on. One will get used to it in course of time and will feel comfortable. Once the cornea attains its desired shape, one can retain the same lens and there is no need to shuffle lenses.
We may have a doubt that whether it is safe or not? It is also associated with microbial or bacterial infection and is a major cause of concern for children, as they do not practice good hygienic conditions compared to adults in wearing the lenses. Infection in eyes has serious consequences like blindness and so this makes ortho-k more dangerous than glasses. It is always recommended to consult a doctor before taking any decision regarding your eyes. Regular checkup with your doctor is also important for a healthy and neat vision.
The cost of this treatment is expensive. There is nothing to worry because insurance is available and the cost may be somewhere between 1000- 4000 dollars. Eye glasses are a cheaper option when compared to ortho-k procedure.
