Presbyopia is a condition which comes without warning when we are aged. It is like a fine line on the corner of the eyes. During this time one has to wear reading glasses or bifocals. People think that wearing reading glasses makes a person look old. When a person is affected by presbyopia the lens in the eye loses its elasticity, unabling light to enter the retina. Usually it occurs when a person is near 40 and this also worsens over time.
Signs of presbyopia:
- Blurred vision even reading at a normal distance
- Headache when doing work
- Eye fatigue and holding and reading materials at an arm's length.
Alternatives to reading and bifocal glasses:
Some may think that when they reach 40 they have to wear reading glasses. There is no cure for presbyopia but one can wear contact lenses and there are surgery options too. Conductive keratoplasty creates a monovision solution for presbyopia. Through this one eye is able to focus on near object and the other eye is able to focus on farther object. Contacts come in bifocal, multifocal and monovision. Most common one is multifocal as it offers natural viewing experience.
Some people have conditions like hyperopia, presbyopia and myopia and also astigmatism. Having multiple conditions is a common thing and for example astigmatism is associated with hyperopia. There is no need to worry in this case as there are various contact lenses according to the need. Consult your doctor to make sure which one suits you the best.
