Treatment for Charles Bonnet Syndrome
As of now there is no effective medicine or cure for Charles bonnet syndrome. But this condition can be managed to an extent if a person follows some of the given instructions.
Talking about hallucinations:
One must talk to his close friend, his family member or a therapist about the visual images which are seen during hallucination. One may not feel isolated or become less isolated by sharing about hallucinations. There are some support groups associated with this condition which offer great tips and other management strategies. It is a very safe place to share about a person's experience with this condition. We must assure people with this condition that these hallucinations are not caused by mental problem but is caused by vision loss. This can pacify the affected people.
Swapping the environment:
One must note clearly when he is experiencing hallucinations, whether it is in dim light or brightly lit room. If it happens in a room where there is dim light, open the room curtains or turn on additional lights. If it happens in a quiet place, switch on the radio or TV.
Eye usage:
It has been found that some of the techniques can help to manage hallucinations. One must try to look away from the hallucination or stare at the hallucinations. Close the eyes and open it, repeat it for some time. Without moving the head move the eyes up and down or from side to side.
