Sure, this Near Card can be downloaded from the FAA web site and printed on paper but how long does it last?
This new Good-Lite version of the 8500-1 card is based on the same optotype but it is printed on VERY durable styrene plastic with finer resolution than achievable with office printers.
The 8500-1 card provides Sloan Letter from 20/20 to 20/200 (at 40 cm) plus various Aeronautical Chart symbols and figures.
Chart is marked for use at both near vision at 16 in. (40 cm) and the intermediate distance of 32 in. (80 cm). Illumination should be 10-25 foot candles (f4 at 1/15 sec ASA 100, but no more than f6.8 at 1/15 100 ASA). 8500-1.
FAA Near Cards is approx. 5.5 x 8 (13.97 cm x 20.32 cm).
Can be cleaned with soap and water.
UV coated.
